Ace High

This refers to a hand where there are no combinations made and the highest card is an Ace:

(A-T-6-5-2)

The above example is called Ace high and would beat the following hand which is a King high

(K-J-9-7-3)

Where two players have an Ace high the next highest card they have determines who wins so that the following Ace high with a King Kicker:

(A-K-8-5-2)

Will beat the following Ace high with Queen kicker:

(A-Q-8-5-2)

 

An Ace High will be beaten by a pair so that the following although looks weak will win:

(2-2-3-6-7)

In Texas Hold'em an Ace as a hole card is not great unless supported by a high kicker card such as a king, queen or jack. When playing against 6 or more players and to arrive to the river with only an Ace high is not a very strong position and the chances are someone has a pair or better.
