Aces Up

Aces up refers to a hand where there are a pair of Aces and another pair:

Ace of Clubs Ace of Diamonds Six of Spades Six of Hearts Two of Diamonds
(A-A-6-6-2)

If Another play has an aces up then the supporting pair will decide who wins so that the next example would lose against the above hand:

Ace of HeartsAce of SpadesFive of DiamondsFive of ClubsKing of Hearts
(A-A-5-5-K)

Even though the second hand has a King the 6-6 beats 5-5. In a situation where two players have a pair of Aces and the same secondry pair the player who has the highest kicker card wins so that:

Ace of HeartsAce of DiamondsEight of ClubsEight of SpadesJack of Diamonds
(A-A-8-8-J)

Will beat the following Aces up which has a Ten kicker (the Jack beats the Ten):

Ace of SpadesAce of ClubsEight of HeartsEight of DiamondsTen of Hearts
(A-A-8-8-T)

In Texas Hold'em an Ace up is a resonable hand to have, especialy if both pairs are made up from your hole cards ie if your hole cards are A-T and there is an A-T dealt as community cards you'll stand a good chance of having the best hand.
