On-Screen Poker Identity | Nick Names

This is the name you will be known as by other players at the table.

You do not need to spend too much time or effort choosing a name. Just remember do not give any information that can be used against you. Poker is about using advantages however small. So for example don’t have a name like ‘London Bob’. Here you have told everybody where you are from and this could be a disadvantage. Online poker is global, so if you are playing at 3.00 am (under the name London Bob) a player let's say from the USA will see that you are probably tired and more likely to make mistakes. You have just given your opponents an advantage. Saying this some poker sites do display the city you’re from but this is out of your hands and shouldn’t worry about it.

So give yourself a name that gives nothing away for example "Bob300".

Now, on-screen names of your opponents can give you an advantage and you'll soon see types of players using certain types of nicknames.

TOP TIP:
Choose a name you like and doesn’t give away information. Change your on-screen name frequently, if possible, to prevent other players keeping note on you. More about note taking later on.
