The Objectives of poker and the ways to win.

The Objective of Poker:

Very simply put the objective of poker is to win money. Money is bet into a pot. In each hand of poker each player has an opportunity to bet into the pot. Depending on the version of poker the way the pot builds up can be different.

Here we are learning to play Texas Hold’em. However, before we go into how the pot builds up we just need to know that the pot is the money you are trying to win. As you learn more you’ll see that you’ll not win each pot (though that would be fantastic), but to win more money than you lose.

Ways to Win at Poker:

There are two ways to win the pot playing poker.

1. Having the best hand at the showdown. Where cards are revealed to show who has the best hand.

2. Being the last player as everyone has folded and therefore there is no showdown.

You will have noticed we are introducing some new vocabulary such as pot, showdown and fold. There are plenty more words which may be new to you so lets go to the next lesson Poker Terms:
