Texas Hold'em Poker

Texas Hold’em is the most popular version of poker played on the internet. This course has been developed to teach this version of poker. However much of what you learn here is applicable to the other versions of poker.

In all versions of poker a hand is made up of five cards. How these five cards are obtained is the chief reason for the different games of poker.

With Texas Hold’em we will see how the betting works. Betting real (or play) money is what makes poker ‘emotional’. Without betting poker would loose its soul and become quite boring.

  • Outline

As a player your objective is to make the best hand (five cards) from a total of seven cards. Two of these cards, known as hole-cards, are dealt to you face-down and are exclusive to you.

A further five cards are dealt, known as community cards, and are available to all players. All combinations are permitted. For example one hole-card and four community cards, or all five community cards which is known as playing the board.
